The Reader magazine sprang to life in 1997 to champion a deeper connection between life and literature. The Reader’s founder, Jane Davis MBE, left school at 16 with two GCSEs and eventually returned to education as a young, single mother achieving a first-class degree, and then a PhD. Jane spent 15 years working as an English teacher and it was in her Continuing Education classes that she started to develop the model we now call Shared Reading.
Issue 72 features the stories and poems that got us through lockdown, and staff and volunteers share personal accounts of The Reader at Home. All this as well as an interview with reader, DJ and musician Cerys Matthews, and recommendations for good books for young and old.
